i'm just a soul whose intentions are good

Harris Teeter has gone downhill because:

1. Bread has gone up thirty cents since a while ago.
2. The cashier put in the wrong PLU for her watermelon before quickly fixing it.
3. You actually have to buy one to get one free, you cannot simply get a single item at half price, unless you get a quick scan and a code from a customer service manager.

Seriously, that was one customer's complaints. She actually said the line, 'Harris Teeter has really gone downhill.' And she was REALLY ANGRY.

Other than that, my day was rather good.

No work tomorrow, I'm very happy about that.

Oh yes, I should mention the women with two young (we're talking 9 and 10) female children. I had one of those magazine racks next to my register, and of course every junk mag has Mary-Kate Olsen on the cover, because she checked herself into a treatment center for the eating disorder thing, and so the women picks it up, and flips to the page talking about it, then very obviously says to nobody 'Oh, that's so sad...sad, sad, sad, sad, sad, sad, sad.' No kidding, she said it that many times. And then she turns to one of her daughters, in case they didn't get it, 'That's so sad...sad.' And she puts the picture down at the girl's eye level.

The girl looks at it, thinks for a second, then says, rather confused, 'Why?'

Mom can't understand what her girl's problem is, why isn't she getting it, says 'well, 'cause...'cause she's trying to be skinny, and...and that's so...sad. Sad.'

The girls still didn't get it. But I'm sure they did get from the encounter that their mother (rather on the large side) considered skinny bad, and, by implication, fat good. I can't wait to see those girls in 6 years.

weird guitar smashing sounds on kid a

Okay, I'm off to Spider-Man.

I'm taking my camera, we'll see what happens.

everything that keeps me together is falling apart

worked from eleven to six today. Wasn't bad.

Got a 45 minute lunch, ate at Cal, called Nina. It was good.

Five hours and thirty minutes till the midnight premiere of Spider-Man 2. I'm not sure how excited I am, as I really didn't like the first one, but it at least was a good watch the first time, and I am hearing wonderful things about this one, especially from AICN. Also looking forward to actually getting a chance to sit and talk to James. Also hoping to film some stuff for Figlet TV (see: 'Fig's Blog,' to your left), but that might not happen.

I bought the 1999 critically acclaimed (9.8 from Pitchfork!) album from my new favorite (well, it's up there) band Modest Mouse, The Moon & Antarctica. It's awesome so far.

28.6.04

it's true that we named our kids after towns we'd never been to

Today I created a GIANT ALUMINIUM BALL..

I am quote proud my myself right now.

Called Nines to leave her an amusing voice mail message, but she picked up. Teh shocking.

In other news, I'm probably going to the Spider-Man 2 premiere tomorrow night (Wednesday morning?) with James Traver of JC fame.

27.6.04

are you dead or are you sleepin'? i sure hope you are dead.

My third thought about Harris Teeter from a while ago was:

3. I've worked at Teeter for two days, and have only asked someone 'is this for here or to go? ONCE.

I rock.

God, who'd want to be such a control freak?

Okay, so apparently I have no good friends any more. Why do people turn into little private islands when they get a significant other?

//self-pitying

the good times are killin' me

I started the Modest Mouse album in the car when I left the house to play at a church in Waxhaw. It finished just as I was pulling into the driveway at home again. Now that's what I call timing.

In related news, I locked myself out of my car at said Waxhaw church. A volunteer fireman, however, very kindly broke into my car for me. I still shudder to think how easy it is for people to break into cars, although I am thankful that it is so easy.

In related news to the first paragraph, but not the second, the MM album is really good, aside from a little non-good things about 3/4ths of the way in. But, I really do like it. The Wilco album needs more listening before I judgment can be laid down.

In news unrelated to anything except the fact that this is a blog, I think my blog is going rather well, one week in.

26.6.04

huh?

'from here the city lights burn...'

um, okay...

'...like a thousand mile fire'

wait, what?

'and i'm here to sign this anthem of our dying day'

what does that mean? i guess it's the title

'from here the city lights burn...'

yeah, got that the first time

'like a thousand mile fire'

it's stupider the second time, you can stop singing it

'and i'm here to sign this anthem'

no, not this again

'of our dying day'

that doesn't even mean anything, there's no--

'from here the city lights burn'

STOP.

'like a thousand mile fire'

THAT DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING. IT'S DU--

'and i'm here to sign this anthem'

NO!!

'of our dying day'

please sing some thing else n--

'from here the ci'

AHH!!

//turns radio off

In related news, I picked up Modest Mouse: Good News For People Who Like Bad News, and Wilco: a ghost is born. I hope they're good.

'wow, he's fast'

'he's too fast for me'

'dang, he moves really fast'

'you're runnning circles around me'

I guess I'm doing something right, then...

sweet baby baby baby, you drive me crazy crazy crazy crazy

In other news, never cut your wrists.

It hurts like a MOTHER.

it's a perfect day, nothing's standing in my way

Ugh. Work from 11 to nine, with an hour break in there.

Hopefully I can get off of McA's at 3 so I can come home, but it's still entirely too much work, and entirely too little free time. Meh. Hopefully next week won't be so bad.

25.6.04

that's alright, I'm here to stay

home from work.

I feel...meh.

...wait, I feel better.

Work tomorrow, all day. Ughness.

i stain my sheets, i don't even know why

i'm high as a kite, i just might, stop to check you out

beatles reunion tour 2005

sorry, no song lyric this post, wanted to reference a 'joke'(?) I made today about my hair.

A few things I noticed today:

1. For all the complaining people do about how we pack their groceries, people do a TERRIBLE job of packing their own cart. You don't know how many people stick soda bottled on TOP of their bread. Arrgh.

2. For all my namebadge saying 'Gregory,' people still call me 'Greg.' Good thing that doesn't bother me anymore. //silently fumes

3. I had a third point here, I know I did.

it's a sad and beautiful world

Me - 'I'll bring in a CD of good music on Friday, and I'm gonna force you to listen to it.'

Him - 'If you like Linkin Park, then you don't like good music.'

Do I look like somebody who likes Linkin Park. Errgh, another person I need to change the opinion of me of...

In related news, I got off of work early, so I've got a good hour and a half before I go into the Teeter.

she's whispering like morticia now

awake.

McA until 4, then the Teeter 5 to nine.

One day of my life.

Al, well. See everyone tonight.

and introduce himself as a scientist

It must be said that it's awesome to be in a relationship where no sex until marriage is understood, not just as an 'oh yeah, I'm a Christian, so that's what I believe,' but as a well thought out, independently justifiable, decision.

If we were to talk ourselves out of it (we wouldn't, to be clear, this is the point), we'd be talking ourselves out of it, not some vague entity that we're supposed to follow.

In other news, it's 1:14, and I'm still up. Less bored than I was a while ago, though.

23.6.04

water me good, and let me ease the drought

Okay, so, since Fig is starting posting things about his e-friends, I'm going to as well.

Might as well start it with Fig. I'm warning you, though, I can't be straight with a thing like this. So here goes:

FIG.

Otherwise known as, um, 'Fig.' Yeah, we basically call him that.

How long have I known Fig? I guess I came to '2k, and sort of saw him there, he posted a lot, seemed like a funny guy.

He never actually solidified as a person to me, though, until I saw one of his films, and saw his signature Fig-shirts. It was around this same time I heard his voice for the first time.

Eventually, I added him to my buddy list, and we've talked, had some...interesting...conversations.

He then called me on the phone one day, making him the third e-friend I've talked to (after Chris Hanel and Nate Butler).

Then, one day (Monday), I had an idea. An internet TV show. With me. Then, I figured out that that would suck. So I needed someone else. So I asked Fig. He liked the idea, and made it tons better by just looking at it.

What I like about Fig?

1. His sexy name. Who else would actually use a contraction of a Star Wars name in real life? That rocks.
2. His humor. However off-beat, it cheers me up.
3. How he takes my ideas and makes them better

In conclusion, Fig Chyristie rocks. Not in a musical way, more in a, um, a cool guy sort of way.

let me clip dirty wings

In other news, I was told today that I look like the lead singer from Saves the Day, Chris Conley.

I think I see it.

//is freaked out

i don't care, 'cause it's free

came home to find one of my best friends e-flamed by someone I used to respect. What is wrong with people?

in other news, what I was going to post on before getting sidetracked, was my day at the Teeter, which went better than I was expecting. I picked it up really fast, and felt like a pro by the end of the day. I still need to learn the PLUs, though. I only know one: bananas (4011).

in many ways still miss the good ol' days

had a good four hours of sleep, thanks for asking. I dreamed of Fig and Doggans.

the Teeter till six. Church till eight-thirty, maybe a thing after church.

i don't even like it, i just lied to get to your apartment

so, I've sort of told myself that I'm gonna post every two or three hours I'm on the computer, and I'm gonna post every time I get on my computer, so, here's my 1:30 AM post.

been up all night planning Figlet TV, and, um, other stuff.

'how about you owe me 25 dollars and we call it even' - quote of the day

22.6.04

all the billion other moments were just slipping all away

Well, I was right.

Boring day. Except for a few highlights.

Worked with good people tonight, that was good.

Bought a new CD, by a band, The Flaming Lips, their 2002 album, the Pink Robot one. It's good.

Was pleased to hear that a friend(?) is still alive.

Working at the Teeter tomorrow, eleven to arghing six. Then church. Blegh.

The rain tonight is good, though. I love lightning, so when I get it, I'm happy.

come a little closer and have another glass of wine

Another morning. Meh.

I'll probably waste this day again, then go to work tonight. I wish I had something to do...

21.6.04

i think you need my soul

worked from like five to eight tonite, then hung out with my cousins and the boyfriend of one of them.

saw trin, she seems to be doing better, face-wise.

passed some news on to people, was fun to see their responces.

a quarter of twenty-five cent

well, I'm up.

Good morning, everyone.

20.6.04

let off some steam, and open the gates

Okay, well, it's 11:45, and I'm sitting here, listening to music.

No idea when I'm going to sleep, but if it's anything like recently, it'll be around 4 AM or so. If it's like last night, though, it'll be midnight. That was terrible, ugh. Though, I got sleep, which is good.

I've got my Winamp set to randomize, and it's amazing how frequently VM comes up.

blanket me, sweet nurse

and keep me from burning.

i must get back to the woods, dear girls.

i must get back to the woods.

home from church, IMing some more, listening to music.

life is good.

and he likes to shoot his gun

feeling better today than I was yesterday.

played piano at a church this morning, need to get some rest this afternoon.

AIMing to do first, though.

19.6.04

burn down the city

so i sort of feel like posting at a blog again.

warning, though, there's not that much you're gonna learn about me from this thing.

and i'm not going to be capitalizing things for at least the next little bit.

what did i do today?

nothing at all. okay, i worked for 5 hours, but other than that, nothing. was hoping to see the terminal today, but that didn't happen.

talked to someone i haven't talked to in a while (okay, i'll admit, sideways references to people is fun) today, which was interesting. i'd say more, but as this is a public blog, that would be stupid.

i got a gmail account today, so if anyone wants to e-mail me, they can use gregory.harbin@gmail.com.

yeah, so that's about it.
